The Introduction of I-Kuan Tao FYCD Cultural and Educational Association of Washington
The I-Kuan Tao FYCD Cultural and Educational Association of Washington (I-Kuan Tao FYCD) was founded in Renton, Washington in 2003. It originated from its headquarter, Chongde Cultural and Educational Foundation (CCEF) in Taiwan. CCEF is well known in Taiwan and has been established for 36 years.
There are numerous branches of CCEF in the U.S. which promote Chinese culture learning and filial piety. The core value of our school (I-Kuan Tao FYCD) is the spirit of Confucian humanistic education. Our curriculums for children and young adults integrate two major fields– Chinese culture classic education and Chinese language learning.
We provide an enlightening educational environment for students. The school meets once a week and students are assigned to small size classes according to age and level. Student classes are grouped depending on their age: Preschool-K (3-5 years old); Children (6-11 years old); and Young Adults (12-17 years old). The course content for Preschool-K is based on the Three Character Classic, Disciple Rules, Analects of Confucius, and Tang poetry. Additionally, children’s Chinese reading books, provided by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC). are used with children’s songs and other teaching materials.
The course content for Children and Young Adults is based on Chinese textbooks provided by the OCAC. In addition, classic courses such as the Four Books of Analects, Tang Poetry and Introduction to Chinese culture are included. Our Chinese Cultural Youth Summer Camp is usually held in late July or early August. We look forward to passing on the excellent culture and character education in a stimulating, supportive and fun atmosphere.
I-Kuan Tao FYCD Cultural and Educational Association of Washington established Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning in January of 2022. This Center teaches Chinese as a second language for adults who are 18 years and older. The content of the course is based on the textbook “Let’s learn Mandarin” edited by the OCAC. This textbook follows foreign language teaching concepts. Students learn vocabularies needed in daily life through natural dialogue. In addition, we will introduce Taiwanese culture, Taiwanese cuisine and historical sites, so that students can experience the customs of Taiwan. We hope that through cultural teaching, Chinese language teaching will not only provide an essential tool for communication, but also gain the understanding of other ethnic groups, resulting in reciprocal and trusting friendships.
It takes three generations to make a gentleman. The education project of inheriting Chinese culture is the expectation of overseas Chinese educators who are interested in promoting Chinese culture.
